A few weeks ago, we had the pleasure to announce that Jameo is part of the 2022's Best Workplaces in Quebec by Great Place to Work® Canada! So, how did we get there? It has truly been an adventure and who’s better to explain it than our co-founder, Bruno? We sat down with him to reflect on Jameo’s journey, the workplace and his vision for the future. Get yourself comfy and enjoy this fun chit-chat with Bruno!
Let’s start with Jameo’s culture, can you tell us more about it?
‘’Culture is the foundation of everything at Jameo! For me, the goal has always been to build a company where it feels good to work and where people are happy. Since day one, we've been putting that forward. In fact, the team and the culture are top priority; there is no product or company if there is not a happy and united team in place.’’
What makes you the proudest regarding Jameo’s culture?
‘’I’m proud to say that we haven't had a single voluntary departure in three years! I am also very grateful for the commitment of my remote team. My colleagues really care about the company's success as if it were their own, and that really touches me. Moreover, everyone works together toward common goals, which is one of my greatest pride. We are able to experience the good times and challenges as a solid team.
A little anecdote: I'm often asked if we're hiring because several of my team members often praise the perks of working at Jameo. It always makes me happy!’’
How do you encourage your team to enjoy the flexibility at Jameo?
‘’Flexibility is all about trust. First of all, I lead by example and by being honest with my team. For example, I love to enjoy beautiful ski days and I don't mind telling my team that I'm taking a few hours off work to ski. Plus, transparency is very dear to us. We listen to our colleagues and their needs and preferences. It really pleases me to know that a co-worker has decided to take advantage of the flexibility of his schedule to contribute to his well-being.’’
Do you have a story to tell about the culture and flexibility at Jameo?
‘’Recently, my team was in seven different time zones! This is a perfect example of the flexibility at Jameo. Also, it's always fun to see my team's backgrounds change during Zoom conferences. Whether it's in a coffee shop, on a trip, or even in a ski resort parking lot! For me, this is proof that our flexibility model works and that my team benefits from it.’’
What are your dreams and goals for Jameo’s culture?
‘’There are currently twelve of us on the team, we are like a little family! As the team expands, I hope to keep this beautiful feeling of closeness. I truly wish that each person who joins Jameo will feel included and part of a supportive team.
One of my dreams is also to always be able to mix work, learning and fun! In my opinion, this is the best way to avoid the traditional 9 to 5 and this is when the best ideas come out! ‘’
How do you think the workplace will change in the next few years?
‘’Right now, there is a big shift: employees have more and more impact on employers' decisions. The culture, values, working conditions and well-being of employees contribute to a team’s retention and are now extremely important during the hiring process.
Furthermore, I believe that there will be a rapid evolution with lots of positive and great initiatives from employers, for example, the 4-day work week. Work standards will be redefined and improved. Great years are ahead and I am happy to be part of the change!’’
How do you contribute daily to make Jameo a better place to work?
‘’I try to be really close to my team. I'm interested in everyone's personal life and I like to share with them in a transparent way. I think you understand someone's professional reality much better if you know about their personal reality. I also believe that our team members have built a friendship and that it allows us to face all kinds of challenges much more easily.
Furthermore, I find that small gestures can make a big difference. For example, a co-worker had water damage and we provided the money for the repairs while waiting for the insurance reimbursement. It's a small action that takes away a huge amount of personal stress. It's a way for me to help my team on a daily basis when there are issues along the way.
Finally, I regularly check in with our accountant to ensure that we have a budget for our company culture, retreats and team activities. This is a priority for me!’’
We hope that you enjoyed this sneak peek into Jameo’s world and culture. We’re so happy to share this with you and thank you for being part of our journey!
